Teaching Area: Bulerias festeras
What to expect: 45 min session with Andrej working on palmas and jaleos (gritos) por bulerias which we will use later for our dancing workshop with Francesca. The sound of clapping and jaleos (oleee, arsaaa), will create a song themselves and they will be adjusted to the bulerias coreography teached by Francesca for 1 hour.
This buleria can be danced in a fiesta and it is full of beautiful marcajes, remates, coletillas y patas.

Francesca Grima "La Chica" BIO
Francesca currently works as a professional flamenco dancer in Seville performing at the renowned Tablao Alvarez Quintero and as well as the Tablao “El Arenal” and Flamenco Esencia on a regular basis.
Together with her husband Andrej, Francesca runs her own flamenco company PUERTO FLAMENCO and over the past seventeen years have created, directed and presented several flamenco performances including "FLAMENCO DPA" (2019) with flamenco star Esperanza Fernandez, "VEINTE AÑOS" (2019), "SHIP OF THESEUS” (2017) premiered at the Malta Arts Festival as well as “ISLA" (2013), "RING" (2011), "SIENTESE" (2012), "TRIANA 41010" (2009), DOS PIES, DOS MANOS, UNA VIDA (2006). Over the years Puerto Flamenco has developed a particular vision of traditional flamenco with a contemporary stage direction and design and the company has performed at prestigious venues and festivals such as WOMAD New Zealand (2009 & 2015), WOMADELAIDE Australia (2009), MÉDITERRANÉE FESTIVAL Ashdod Israel (2018), SZIGET FESTIVAL Budapest (2006); THE BIENAL DE FLAMENCO Seville (2010), FESTIVAL IBERICA Prague (2016); THE MALTA ARTS FESTIVAL (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013 & 2017), THE GYPSY JAZZ FESTIVAL New Caledonia (2013), THE BRUCE MASON CENTRE New Zealand (2013), PITTSBURGH GUITAR FESTIVAL USA (2010), QPAC THEATRE, Brisbane Australia (2012, 2016 & 2019) and THE MANOEL THEATRE, Malta (2012).
Francesca is the lead dancer and producer of the Maltese Folk group ETNIKA, forming part of their new album “Maddalena’s Marvellous Tripfolk Klabb” and having toured and performed with them for the past twenty years in prestigious festivals and venues including the SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, The MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL, MUZIQUE PUBLIQUE, RUDOLSTADT FOLK FESTIVAL and FOLK IM SCHLOSS in Germany.
Francesca is a co-director of PUERTO FLAMENCO alongside with Andrej Vujicic as well as the renowned Folk fusion band ETNIKA from Malta.
Francesca will perform on the same day in the Theater de Leeuw together with the percussionist Andrej Vujicic and Lucas Arango (flamenco guitar) and Yota Baron (singing). Find your tickets to the performance here.
